Born and raised in Columbia, SC, Dr. Ford S. Cooper returned to South Carolina in 1997 from Washington, DC and began his career in orthodontics. Dr. Cooper received his Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology from Howard University in 1987 and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree with honors from Howard in 1992. After graduating from dental school, he completed a General Practice Residency program at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC.
Dr. Cooper enjoyed a short period of time practicing family dentistry with his father and older brother, Drs. Noble P. Cooper and Noble P. Cooper Jr. respectively, in his home town. The Cooper legacy, beginning with the late Dr. H.H. Cooper, has provided continuous dental service in South Carolina for more than 100 years.
Dr. Cooper returned to Howard and completed his postgraduate residency with honors in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. After passing up an appointment to the faculty at Howard University’s College of Dentistry, Dr. Cooper returned to South Carolina to begin practicing orthodontics.
He is currently working on 20 years in private practice and is one of a few orthodontists that actively holds a duel license in both South Carolina and North Carolina. He currently has two offices in the Charlotte metropolitan area; one in the Northlake area and the other in the University area, as well as offices in Rock Hill, SC and Spartanburg, SC.
Dr. Cooper, his wife and three children have lived in Charlotte since 2004. In addition, they are active in the community and are very proud to call Charlotte home.
When he is not in the office, Dr. Cooper enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, exercising and playing golf when time permits!
Dr. Alyssa Sprowl is originally from Stone Mountain, Georgia. She is a graduate of Hampton University and received her doctorate in dental surgery at Meharry Medical College. She successfully matriculated through her General Practice Residency at Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center. Realizing her true passion, Dr. Sprowl completed her postdoctoral program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Dr. Sprowl was recognized academically throughout her educational career by being inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national Honor Society. As a 4-year Dean’s list scholar, she also received accolades from the American Association of Periodontology and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for clinical excellence.
The art and science of orthodontics gives Dr. Sprowl the opportunity to enhance smiles while being a positive role model in her community. Dedicated to serving, Dr. Sprowl has helped mentor young adults interested in the science field and has volunteered with various organizations throughout the Charlotte area.
Outside of the office, Dr. Sprowl enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and loving her shihtzu Louii Vuitton and yorkie CoCo Chanel.
Dr. Sprowl is a proud member of the American Dental Association, National Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontist, and the North Carolina Association of Orthodontist.
Dr. Kent T. Washington earned his undergraduate degree at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina and then attended Howard University College of Dentistry. After graduating from dental school with honors — Omicron Kappa Upsilon, he completed the Orthodontic Residency program, also at Howard. During residency training, he conducted extensive research work in the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, some of which served as the focus of his thesis.
Dr. Washington is member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. Dr. Washington remains current and is certified in Invisalign as well as lingual orthodontics.
